Previously, it was only possible to register .UK domains (including .co.uk, .org.uk etc) for 2 year periods, which was fine for some and well, a bit awkward for others. However, the new, more flexible regulations mean that things have changed a bit.
Here’s how it affects you:
1. Domains can now be registered or renewed for single-year periods. This means that those of you who want to move forward cautiously, can do so.
2. Domains can now be registered or renewed for up to 10 years. So, if you want to secure your site for a number of years at a time (bypassing the hassle of renewing each year), you can now do so.
3. Domains can now be renewed at any point as long as the additional years added to the domain do not take the total registration period over 10 years – this brings .UK in-line with other major TLDs.
